Experience with HKParts

With many of my hobbies, past and present, accessories add to the positive and fun experience. I purchased my first HK pistol, and I love it. I needed some accessories, so I am sharing my experience with hkparts.net.

I purchased my first HK pistol, a VP9 Match, and I love it! The accuracy, reliability, and fit in the hand, along with its appearance, make it worth owning and bragging about.

As mentioned in the post description, this thing needed accessorizing. In the picture below, I added a Taylor Freelance brass magwell. The weight of the brass balances the handgun in the hand, either with or without the compensator.

I have optics on many handguns, especially those I use in competitions, challenges, and for recreational purposes. For the VP9, I could have gone with the Holosun SCS VP9, which mounts directly to the slide. The SCS window is smaller than I wanted, and uncomfortable for me to use in competition. Another type/model of optic requires an optic plate for mounting. For this build, I went with the Holosun 507C X2 in green.

If you're unsure about an optic for your VP9, check out this fit guide by Freedom Gorrilla. They have a large selection of optics and competitive pricing. Also, they provide military/veteran discounts. They've put a lot into their site, helping customers find the right optic for their model firearm with the fit guides and cheat sheets for optic plates. They also have great product reviews and videos, especially the videos showing mounted optics and how they co-witness.

I placed the order on the 20th, which was delivered on the 25th. Living in a rural area, I say, is pretty good for the delivery experience. The online experience was outstanding, too. However, I did ask customer service before I ordered, and they don't offer a military/veteran discount. This is the response I received: "Thank you for your inquiry. Our pricing is already priced low for all dealers, veterans & LE."

The mounting plate is of durable quality and performs as intended. I like the stickers too, as I collect them and use them all over (as my wife shakes her head (LOL).

So far, so good. But wait, there's more!

Since I purchased the VP9 Match, I've entertained getting a compensator. I did a lot of research on social media and product sites for the right comp, and eventually found one.

Some of the comps required direct attachment (some screw directly) to the Picattiny rail. The ones that screw directly to the rail, people reported the screws left marks on the polymer rail. HK Parts has a new comp that does not screw directly to the rail. Actually, the mounting design looks good and simple, and it's a good-looking comp, though a little pricey. Let's get it!

Just before I installed the comp, I reached out to HK Parts to ask which recoil spring to use with the comp. The VP9 Match features two springs with different tensions: a red and a blue spring. They responded to use the blue as that is what they tested with.

I responded, thanking them for the information, and also mentioned the issue I had (above) with the comp. To date, there has been no reply to that email.

I called HK Parts for help, and they were helpful. The representative wanted pictures if I had them, and so I emailed the pictures with a description of the problem.

This image is a full timeline of the issue. You can click on it to view the full timeline, which will be updated accordingly. Otherwise, you can continue reading.

As I mentioned, I went with an optic that requires a mounting plate, so I thought I'd try HKParts. They had the correct optic plate (#2 RMR, Holosun) at a reasonable price, and in addition, they offered a five-pack of HK decal stickers for free. Alright, let's give them the opportunity.

My Second Order with HKParts.......well

Like the optic plate, I received the comp 5 days later. So far, so good.

The comp looks good and includes two plates, one a Picatinny rail and one blank (they call it a delete plate). Additionally, the product site features an installation video (also available on their YouTube channel) that is well-produced and easy to follow.

Some background on me before I get into the installation. I work in Information Technology, focusing on the installation, upgrade, and replacement of hardware. Additionally, I perform home electrical work, work with small electronics, and am an amateur inventor. I enjoy installing and testing firearm accessories and different models and brands of optics.

Following the video, I installed the comp with the blank plate. And well, the outcome was not what was in the video, or what anyone would want. It was disappointing, to say the least.

The directions state to use the small screws for the blank plate which I did and tighten to 26 inch pounds. I would barely get to 5 inch lbs, and the srews stripped. As they were screwing down they stripped the comp screw holes and created metal burrs that wrapped around the serews.

In the meantime, while awaiting a replacement comp, it went on sale on the HK parts site.
All this time without the comp, and then seeing it's on sale is like salt in the wound.

My First Experience w/ hkparts.net

Well, how'd it go?

I then tried the rail plate with the long screws as directed in the video but they did not grasp and just about did the same as the shorter screws. I tried the long screws with the blank plate and they grabbed and tightened down. I removed the screws for pictures, then re-installed the long screws, but unfortunately they did the same as the short, and would not tighten down.

The Summary

So far:

  • For the first defective comp, there was no offer to ship a replacement or ship one ahead of time. I had to mention the expense of returning a defective item for them to then provide a return label.

  • They did not offer to provide the part at the sale price when I brought it to their attention. Eventually, they did.

  • They did not provide a replacement immediately or within a reasonable time.

  • In one email with their Support, they did not respond to my last email, but that was with another representative at the start of the communication.

  • Of any experience with a vendor, this was the longest I've gone without a replacement when an issue or defect arose.

  • It took an email stating the complaints with the BBB and Utah Division of Consumer Protection to receive a response.

  • They shipped a replacement but did not use a priority service (which others have) to compensate for the inconvenience. I had to demand that the replacement be shipped via a priority service.

  • The replacement is defective with the same issue as the first. In an email from HK Parts Support regarding the first comp that was returned, they stated that they will give it to their Engineer for review. If this were the case, the replacement should not have had the same issue.

While searching for HK parts, I came across these sites that may help if you're looking for parts or accessories as an alternative to HK parts. Please note that I have not done any business with most of them, so use them at your own risk.

I have many of the Taylor Freelance products. The brass magwell is a great addition to the VP9 Match for function, aesthetics, and it balances the overall weight of the gun.

The Replacement!

So they finally sent a replacement via USPS. Upon tracking, it went from UT to my local USPS distribution center here in the Northeast in a reasonable amount of time, about five days.

Wait, what is with the u-turn? I then noticed the replacement was going backwards, and appeared to be returning to HK Parts. Once the package reached Colorado (in its return path), I opened a case with the USPS.

A few days later, they responded with "It appears that this package never made it into the USPS mail stream. A label was created on 5/09/2025, but the package has no acceptance scan. Please contact the sender for further inquiries."

Fortunately, our local Post Master is at our local post office, and I brought this response to their attention. There's a chance a label was created and included in a bulk shipment, but the package didn't reach the USPS. This creates a phantom tracking, but the actual package doesn't exist within the USPS.

I called this out to HK Parts, and they sent another via FedEx 2-day service.

Anyway............

I received the replacement via FedEx, and well, HK Parts did not redeem themselves.

The replacement had the same issue as the first, as the blank plate (delete) did not tighten down using the provided short screws. Those screws are too short, and stripping the begining threads on the comp. You can see that in the pictures of the plate with screws and the screw holes on the comp.

I reached out to HK Parts, stating that the replacement is defective, along with these images, and requesting a full refund. They responded with a return shipping label, and a refund will be provided once the part is received.

The Verdict?

HK Parts received the second defective part and provided a full refund.

If you order from HK Parts without issues, you've had a good experience. However, after reading posts on the HK subreddit (link below), TrustPilot reviews (link below), and my own experience, I would say that if you have an issue, I wish you the best of luck.

They fall short in providing effective customer support during issues, as they only do the right thing when called out on it.

If you can get the part elsewhere, do so. If they have a part you can't do without, my conclusion is to do business with extreme caution. Given my experience, I will avoid HK Parts if possible.
